Winter Nights Shelter at St. John Vianney - 2012
|
The Contra Costa Interfaith Council
(CCIC) Winter Nights program begins its season in October. Homeless families will be given
shelter in churches and temples throughout our community. FYI:
This year SJV will house the
families for two weeks. (More information will be announced soon.) The
families have unique needs because they move to a different hosting
congregation every two weeks. The Winter Nights shelter program has a Wish
List of items that would help ease the challenges faced by the families. Items
needed at this time include:
|
Rolling duffle bags (a big hit the past two years) |
|
Gas station certificates |
|
$5 BART tickets |
|
County Connection bus tickets (can be purchased in Walnut Creek at
Whole Foods, WC Senior Center and CVS near Rossmoor) |
|
Travel-sized toiletries |
|
 |
For two weeks, as part of the Contra Costa
Interfaith Coalition Winter Nights Shelter program, St. John Vianney will host
homeless families; mothers, fathers, little children and teens. |

We provide three meals each day for the families and our tutors offer homework help and
educational activities each evening for the children. On the weekend we provide fun
activities. Weekend meals and meal clean-up are being done by
parish groups this year, but the job descriptions are included
here so that members of those groups can see them.

Weekend Activities)

| The response from parishioners
eager to help is almost overwhelming and makes the work of organizing this effort a joy. |
