Meet
Lynn Finegan - Music Director
Great News!

Lynn Finegan has been named SJV Director of Liturgical Music   As you know, Lynn has been serving as our Interim Director of Liturgical Music since the 3rd Sunday of Advent. Despite the horrific timing for assuming the interim position – and already working 50-60 hours per week – Lynn has been a most generous and competent musician and coordinator – even starting an optional “sightreading” and “intro to music theory” class for our dedicated singers who have never had any “training.” Since late December she has, in effect, been working two full-time jobs – Lynn and I have often exchanged e-mail at 2:00am – and she has found much delight in serving our community and working with our parish staff and musicians.

Lynn has much experience in a variety of churches as a piano and organ soloist, as well as an accompanist and director of cantors, soloists, choirs, and various choral ensembles. She received a Master of Music from the Case Western Reserve, Cleveland Institute of Music (OH) with a piano major and harpsichord minor. Her Bachelor of Music degree is from Oberlin College’s Conservatory of Music and has studied at Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore (MD). She is a member of the American Guild of Organists, the Voices of Musica Sacra, the Music Teachers Association of California, and the National Speakers Organization.

Lynn will also be attending a variety of workshops this summer to augment further her knowledge and skills in choral directing and in the breadth of Catholic liturgical music, including the emerging breadth in contemporary music for children and youth. One of the conferences she will attend is the renowned National Pastoral Musicians Convention (Chicago), whose fine reputation now draws many church musicians and liturgists from quite a number of Christian traditions. (Any idea where the 1st NPM Convention was held way back in 1977? Hint: I worked on the coordinating team, some 8 years before I was ordained...)

My thanks, too, to our fellow parishioner, Phil Runge, and Charlene Marchi who have wonderfully assisted as accompanists and who will continue to do so.

Welcome aboard, Lynn!
