The Greeter Ministry at St. John Vianney is a
liturgical ministry. That means that
as a Greeter your service is as vital as that of the Eucharistic Ministers,
Lectors, Ushers and Altar Servers to the enrichment of the liturgical
experience. Your welcome sets the
tone for each person’s experience of the Liturgy.
It is our goal to have at least
one person at the four main entrances to the church at every Liturgy. That
means we need a minimum of 20 people
every weekend! Two people at each door would be even better.
Currently, we have 6 scheduling opportunities a
year. Every two months, there are
sign-up sheets in the vestibule of the church and greeters can pick whatever
date and time works best for them. These
events are announced in the bulletin and at the liturgies. If
you miss the sign ups or join before the scheduled signup, then sign on any space
available on the current schedule which is posted on the bulletin
board in the library. Also, if you
come to Liturgy and nobody is at the door, please take a few minutes and pitch
in. Helping each other out with schedule conflicts will be greatly appreciated.
You
should arrive at your post about 15 minutes before Mass and remain
at least until after the first reading or longer if you see people arriving. You need to welcome everyone and see that they each receive a bulletin
and be attentive such special needs as help with the door or location of
restrooms.
Greeter name tags are on the bulletin board in the
room that is currently being used as a library just off the vestibule. You will have your own tag and we ask that you wear it while greeting.
This is a really “easy-on-your-time” and yet an
important service to the church, the parishioners, and visitors. A warm welcome can mean a lot to someone who is looking for a church to
belong to or to a long time parishioner who just needs a smile to get their day
going.
