Connecting People Who
Care with Seniors in Need...
Do you have an interest in helping a senior in need?
Would you like to volunteer 1-3 hours a week as a
friendly visitor, drive someone to a doctor's
appointment or shopping, telephone in between visits,
make a meal or do minor home repairs or yard work? You
can choose to assist in the community or a fellow member
of the St. John Vianney family.
Caring Hands is an interfaith volunteer caregivers
program; and a collaborative effort of John Muir/Mt.Diablo
Health System, congregations of various religious faiths
and representatives of social service agencies. Caring
Hands volunteers serve frail, isolated, and disabled
seniors over the age of 60 to enable them to remain in
their own homes as long as is safely possible.
SJV care provider, Joan takes her care receiver, Susan, a holocaust survivor
with macular degeneration, to area schools and other venues so Susan can tell
her life story. Susan’s purpose: to inform so that the atrocities of man’s
inhumanity to man not be allowed to happen again. Joan and Susan also spend time
just enjoying each other’s company and have developed a deep and caring
friendship.
This is just one example of the many ways Caring Hands has helped local seniors
Caring Hands is described as “heart work” since the time it takes to give to
another, truly comes from the heart. And now is the perfect time for you to make
a difference in the life of a senior.
Caring Hands is looking for volunteers who are available to serve the seniors
living in our community. Volunteers provide transportation to medical
appointments and grocery stores, perform “fix-it” tasks, or do friendly
visiting. The heart of the program is the relationship that develops between the
volunteer and the senior. One-on-one “matches” are created that make a
significant difference In the life of seniors
Volunteers Needed to Serve Seniors. Currently, we are unable to assist the 14
Walnut Creek seniors (about 30 in Central Contra Costa County) on our waiting
list for lack of volunteers. The needs are simple and you and the senior’s lives
will be changed forever |
